Sarah Teresa Nelsen is a graphic designer and the illustrator of My Unexpected Journey: Reflections After Losing My Son to Suicide. She has a personal connection with suicide awareness and prevention.

She partners with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to provide custom art kits and creative, therapeutic activities for survivors of suicide. She also works with organizations focused on empowerment and recovery for Survivors of Human Trafficking, Homelessness, and Loss.

Nelsen is greatly inspired by the process of creating something outside yourself and has witnessed how it improves mental health, confidence, and calm. Her work and mission are fueled by God's word, leaps of faith, and unedited prayer.

Nelsen holds a B.A. in Graphic Design and Integrative Arts from Pennsylvania State University. She lives in Pittsburgh, Pa. with her husband, two daughters, and two rescue pups.
